About Your Instructor

Twins Tree Photo-5.jpgSusanna Gunther

Hello! My name is Susanna Gunther. I have been teaching at Solano College for about fifteen years. I love teaching math and statistics courses, and now teaching online full time is giving me a new opportunity to improve my teaching and success with my students via another medium of instruction.
I have an unusual background for a community college math instructor. I have a Masters Degree in Mathematics from UC Davis, and a Doctorate of Optometry from UC Berkeley, so I worked for many years as both an eye doctor and as an adjunct math instructor prior to being hired at Solano College.
I have also been politically active in my profession by serving as the President of CMC3, which is the statewide organization representing community college math instructors, as well as serving as both the Academic Senate President and the Basic Skills Coordinator for the faculty at Solano College.
On a personal note, I have five children, three of whom live with me and my husband in Davis. They range from a daughter living in Berkeley and working to combine her biology degree from UC Davis with her love for computer programming, down to my two 4-year old twins (pictured above), who keep me very busy when I am not working!

Contact information

The best way to reach me is to use the Canvas "Inbox" option on the menu to your left. I will usually be available this way within 24 hours, and often within minutes to several hours, except on weekends when it may or may not be longer.

The second way to leave me a message is to use Solano College email. My address is susanna.gunther@solano.edu, and I am usually checking this at least every 48 hours, except on weekends when it may be longer.

My office hours are Mon-Thurs, from 10-11am, and are online. Again the fastest way to reach me then is using the Inbox option to your left, but if you need or want it and we mutually arrange it, I am able to skype or zoom with you. If I am not responding during office hours, that merely means that I am assisting another student. I will get back to you.

You can also get assistance from me or your classmates by using the Muddiest Point assignments in the modules. This will make more sense to you as the semester progresses. Welcome to the class!
