Canvas Global Announcement Guidelines

Global announcements are a useful tool to provide information to all Canvas Users*.  In an effort to provide clear and concise messaging, please use these guidelines when submitting announcement requests. For announcements to be posted in Canvas please send the information to de@solano.edu and make sure the content meets the following conditions.

Content Guidelines

  • The announcement is relevant to the majority of students and/or faculty
  • The announcement request is related to teaching and learning, or about academic matters
  • Announcements are limited to 100 words
  • Wording must be clear and concise
  • Poster/flyer must be organized, formatted and ready for publishing

Accessibility

For accessibility consideration, please follow these guidelines:

  • Content should be submitted using jpg or png and include a text only version and should not contain high resolution graphics or images
  • Include an alternate text for screen readers
  • Content should be less than 325Kb in file size
  • Hyperlinks should be working and included with original request

Posting Parameters

  • Requests should be submitted 14 days ahead of the desired publication date
  • Announcements are typically published on Mondays and remain published/active for a maximum of five business days

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • Images should be reflective of our community
  • Events and announcements should be open to all students, staff and faculty

Notes

  1.  To keep announcements brief, consider publishing an announcement with additional information in another location and linking to it from your announcement.

  2.  To retain the focus on the learning experience in Canvas, no more than ten announcements will appear on Canvas at any time. Announcement spots will be filled first-come, first-served. You are encouraged to plan and submit your announcement as early as possible to reserve a spot.  

  3.  Any announcement that is not formatted to meet accessibility standards will not be posted.
