Babies in Prison

Many of you might not have thought much about pregnant women who are sentenced to prison. There are questions unique to pregnant women who are incarcerated in our prisons throughout the United States. While doing this week's assignment consider these questions:

• What medical treatment do they get?
• Are they shackled to the hospital bed during labor and birth?
• What happens to the children born to these women?
• How long can babies stay with their mothers in the prison before they are separated?
