Course Overview
Hi!
Welcome to this online course. This is a full semester course and it is taught completely online. You will not be coming to the campus for any work. You can always contact me with a phone call or an email.
Course Level Objectives/Outcomes from Course Outline of Record (COR):
CJ 58 3.0 Units Fundamentals of Crime and Delinquency Course Advisory: CJ 001; SCC minimum English and Math standards.
Introduction to major types of criminal behavior, patterns of career offenders, factors which contribute to the production of criminality or delinquency. Includes methods used in dealing with violators in the justice system; the changing roles of police courts and after-care process of sentence, probation, prisons, and parole; changes of the law in crime control and treatment processes. Three hours lecture.
Student Learning Outcomes
- List and analyze types of human behavior which constitutes violations of human behavior of legal codes and conduct of conduct within organized society.
- Identify and discuss individual cause theories, social structure theories, social process and social reaction theories in relation to criminal and delinquent behavior.
- Identify several ethical issues involved with dealing with public offenders within the criminal justice system.
Important!
You will need a computer and a textbook (listed in the syllabus).
Do not attempt to do the work for this class on a smart phone. The tests and some of the assignments do not show up.
The class is setup in weeks. One week (module) at a time. It opens on a Sunday morning at 12 a.m. and all the work for the week is due the following Saturday at 11:59 p.m. The weeks stay open for review, but I do not take late work unless you have talked to me first and I allow it.
