Thanks for joining this course. In Introduction to Business, you'll be challenged to understand and master the fundamental concepts and principles that explain the workings of business organizations and private enterprise. You'll examine the major economic systems—from capitalism through socialism to communism—and analyze the complex relationships between business, government, and consumers.

By comparing and contrasting different forms of business organization—including sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, and corporations—you'll learn the advantages and disadvantages of each. Students will also explore the different functions of business management, marketing, and ethics and social responsibility. The course addresses human resources management, examining how employers can motivate their employees. Finally, you’ll investigate how bookkeeping, accounting, financial management, and financial statements serve as powerful management skills and tools that can determine whether a business succeeds, thrives, or fails.

This is a fairly rigorous course, and you should expect to work hard. But you'll also learn a great deal from your peers, and we'll all benefit from your experience and unique perspective. We will be using McGraw-Hill's Connect and LearnSmart online learning tools weekly; so you'll need to use a computer with a reliable Internet connection.

To get started, please follow the Syllabus page link to your left or follow this link to download and review this document. Consider the Syllabus as your comprehensive course guide and class schedule. After that you should begin your assignments for the first module.

If you ever need to contact me, you can reach me through my contact information below. I'll respond to your message within 24 hours time. I can also be available via web-conference if needed.

I'm really looking forward to our time together. Here's to a great semester.
